Regifting is the action of giving someone a gift that was once given to you. It has been thought of as inconsiderate, disrespectful, even insulting. It doesn’t have to be though. Regifting can be practical and thoughtful. Sometimes I give gifts that I intend to be regifted. I have a friend that exchanges salt & pepper shakers with another friend. I saw some super cute salt & pepper shakers (in another country) that I knew couldn’t be duplicated, so I got them for my friend to give to her friend. Practical and Thoughtful! Once I gave a friend a gift-wrapping kit. Paper/Tissue/Bows/Ribbons/Gift Bags/Boxes. None of it was new. I had been saving my gift wrap stuff for years & decided I didn’t want to hang on to it anymore. I was just moving it from one spot to another. Anyway, it was a hit! Of course, I had to explain...because when they opened this big box of colorful junk, they were very confused. Once they realized what it was, they LOVED it. Also, I keep a bin in my closet labeled “regift.” When I get something that I know I just can’t or won’t use (like yellow/blue dish towels, but my kitchen theme is red/black; or a beautiful, scented candle, but I don’t like that scent; or a duplicate of something I already have), it goes in the bin…to ultimately be treasured (or regifted) by somebody else.
I love this- I have a re-gift bin too. Just makes more sense than goodwill!
